New book “Of Fire and Water: Alchemy and Transformation”

I’ve heard from friends and students from different countries — England, Philippines, Scotland, Thailand, USA, Canada, Russia, Taiwan. Seems like the book is selling in other countries.Three of my students in the Philippines have already ordered their copies of my book “Of Fire and Water: Alchemy and Transformation” (Tambuli Media: 2023).

Two of them have received their copies. One of them ordered 5 copies to give to friends. I know the book is not such a big news but it makes me happy that they went out of their way to have a copy to read. Aside from the 32 essays, plus 3 prefaces and an afterword, there are many photos, some of them of them from my archive. There are photos of old  (famous and obscure, both) masters who have since passed away. There are stories about ancient practices (strange and/or bizarre) and rituals that are hardly seen in public nowadays. I hope one or two episodes will touch the lives of the readers and inspire them to find their own path in life.

The master who painted the art work/enso for the book cover is a Kungfu master (Fu Jow Pai/Tiger Claw style), calligrapher and painter. He started martial art training  when he was 4-5 years old in Hongkong and continued when he migrated to the US becoming a famous and respected teacher based in New York’s Chinatown. His artwork has appeared in exhibitions in the US and Asia and in art journals. He has choreographed and has appeared in fighting scenes in movies and videos. For more of his videos,  google them online. He is a real warrior-scholar in the ancient tradition.
